Puma Vortice Over Ear Headphones Review

Full Size Headphones – My Lucky Buy

I recently had the chance to get my hands on these new release Over Ear Headphones by Puma. I had not noticed them before and so they caught my attention, and after further investigation i found out they had just been released a few days ago. At first look i thought they looked cool and low profile in style, they stood out as simplistic and simple (kind of mimicking puma’s clothing line). I was not expecting anything extraordinary in terms of audio quality and to tell you the truth i was expecting to be let down in terms of the sound quality, but either way i bought a pair of the Puma Vortice Over Ear Headphones.

2014 Update: I’m still loving the Vortice, but if your looking for something super special click here to check out my new review on the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x.

First Impressions – And What I thought

Once i had unboxed the Vortice’s i began taking a closer look at the headphones themselves. The headphones are an all plastic construction with a nice shine to them, the headband expands as expected and sports a neat but dense rubberized padding at the top. The ear-cups on the Puma Vortice Over-Ear Headphones are nice and large with a very slight oval shape that cup perfectly over my ear, and were also very comfortable to wear due to the large soft padding around the ear cups. The Vortice’s are fairly light considering there larger size and fit nice and snug. The cable on these headphones is also detachable and does also include track control and a microphone.

And now the final moment before i plugged the Vortice’s into my Samsung phone to test out the audio, I was a little nervous, kind of expecting a low quality scratchy audio (I don’t know why i was expecting this, maybe because Puma is mainly a clothing line).  I was blown away by the quality of the audio, it was fantastic. I had trouble distinguishing the audio quality between these Puma Vortice’s and some of the other more expensive headphones I am used to testing. I found it somewhat comical that the sound turned out to be such nice quality because of the low price tag on these Vortice’s, great value for your money. The sound was full, rich and bassy, picking up on the highs and lows in the same way a high end pair of headphones would.

I bought puma vortice overhead set 2 weeks ago. I have Windows 8 on my Mac. When I use the Mac side the headset is OK, but when I go to windows it won’t pick up the mic of headset. Do I need driver for it?

Hey, you shouldn’t have to install a driver for the mic to work with windows. What you might need to do is configure the mic in your control panel, and make sure you select it as the mic you want to use.

It’s held up pretty well, and the sound is good. I’m impressed, its a good choice for the price.
