V-MODA XS On-Ear Noise-Isolating Metal Headphones Review

V-MODA XS On-Ear Noise-Isolating Metal Headphones Review

Finally the new and improved V-Moda XS! A lot of people have been waiting for the XS model, as V-Moda doesn’t release new ones too often. There are some fairly significant changes that have been implemented to the design of these new guys. For one they are definitely a little smaller with a thinner frame, starting from the headband all the way to the ear-cups, the look is more streamlined. Although the over all generic look of V-Moda is still present and there is no mistaking this.

The XS also comes with a really great zip-up carrying case, its compact, hard-shelled, and reps the V-Moda logo right on the side. If you find the right pair of V-Moda’s that suit your needs and style they could very easily become your favourite pair of cans. If your new to the world of higher-end headphones these are a great brand to start off with, and will leave you wondering why you ever went with a pair of cheaper cans. Let’s take a look at some of the specifics of these XS on-ear noise-isolating headphones.

XS Build and Style

V-Moda is made in the U.S.A and is known for making some tank like headphones. Most of the V-Moda models are super high quality all metal construction, and are designed in a way that makes them customizable! The xs build and style is greatfact that you can take these cans apart and give them your own unique style really puts them high up in my books. You can change up the metal shields to the color/design of your choice, you can also have them laser engraved with literally anything you want, and they also feature something new called “XS loops” that allows you to attach a strap or chain. What more could you want then a pair of headphones that are not only built to last for ages, but also rival the performance of any headphone company.

The headband on these XS metal headphones is considered indestructible, as it’s all metal, super flexible and strong, V-Moda named it “SteelFlex” (these headphones have been military tested for strength). Kind of similar to the Sol Republic Master-Tracks, which also has a ridiculasly strong headband although its not made of metal, but a composite of plastics.

The military level testing is quite interesting, considering no body listens to music during a shoot out or missile launch, but I guess it just adds to the coolness factor of these XS headphones. Some of the testing drills these cans have gone through and passed, include the following; Up to 1 million bends on the kevlar reinforced cable, which has exceeded the industry standards by 100 times. 60 drops onto concrete from a distance of 1.5 meters. The headband survived 10 completely flat bends. The V-Moda XS also survived severe weather, such as extreme temperatures, humidity, salt water, and prolonged sun exposure. These are some tough headphones, you can probably play kick the can with them (not advised).

The V-Moda XS is also designed for easy portability, as the headband has hinges for folding, let alone the entire frame is very thin and minimalist. When folded they fit into their carrying case really well and make an ideal pair of traveling headphones. The earpieces are equipped with ErgoFoam memory foam padding, that come in both original and extra large sizes.

V-Moda XS Comfort & Wearability

Im really happy with the XS. Even though V-Moda addressed some of the issues with the older model M-80’s, they did not compromise in any significant way, making this XS model even more comfortable, in my opinion.audio quality of v-moda xs is fantastic So even though they downsized this model and made them even more portable, they also made sure to loosen up the clamping of the headband to allow for a more subtle fit, which allows for excessive long term use without any noticeable pressure points. This may be different for each on of us depending on head size/shape, but for an on-ear pair of headphones they impress me, and apparently many others as well, judging by the amount of positive reviews from happy buyers.

V-Moda XS Sound Quality

I shouldn’t even write anything for sound quality, as they pretty much have a very similar sound to the previous M-80’s, which is again really, really good. For such a small pair of headphones these little XS cans pump out some serious vibes. They sound just as good if not better then other headphones that are larger in size, including the Audio-Tehchnica M-series range, some Klipsch models, and of course the older M-80’s.

Sound reproduction on the XS is amazing, and attention to detail is second to none. If you don’t already know about me, I like to listen to a large variety of music when testing headphones. I go through various tracks of house, dubstep, rock, blues, rap, and much more. The frequency balance on these stood up to the test with flying colors, and its hard to take them off and listen to music through speakers or other headphones. The sound is accurate, very clear and exciting, these headphones will give a second life to your old playlist. Oh, and they are also noise-isolating for those much needed private moments when out in a busy public place or travelling.
